Is there a way to print campership forms off of the website?

On this week's installment of Meet the Staff we have Office Manager Dawn Holoubek!

Dawn Beer Holoubek is a native of the Daytona Beach, FL area. Growing up, Dawn enjoyed being involved in Girl Scouts, 4H, competing with her horse in the local monthly rodeo, and raising and showing steers with FFA. She has one older brother who still lives in Florida. Fun fact: Dawn is a two-time grand steer champion in the county in which she grew up, thanks to her steers Blackjack and Tanner. Cool experiences: Dawn was involved in Disney’s Epcot Candlelight Processional for three years in a row with her vocal ensemble class in high school.

In 2001 she was a part of a Marine Exploring Post and Venture Crew. She was introduced to the Scouting world through a new professional Scouter who would become her husband in 2002. After attending Daytona State College for a few semesters, life had different plans and her family grew with having her daughter, Trinity in 2003 and then her son, Michael “Mikey” in 2007, all while moving several times around the Central Florida Council. In 2011, Scouting called Dawn’s family to make a move and so she left her job at Seminole County Animal Services to move her family up to Peachtree City, GA. Her family spent four years with the Flint River Council, where her son Mikey started his Scouting journey as a Tiger Cub. In 2015 they were called again to make another move to Lake Charles, LA. While in the Calcasieu Area Council, Dawn was an Assistant Den Leader, Assistant Crew Advisor, Committee Member, and Committee Chair. Dawn also worked part-time in the Scout Shop and volunteered with several community events in the area. Dawn’s daughter, Trinity, is an Eagle Scout and is part of the inaugural class of female Eagle Scouts. Her son Mikey is currently a Life Scout and hopes to complete his Eagle project soon.

Over the last six years many life changes have happened for Dawn; working a few different jobs as a substitute teacher, a school bus driver, and a rural carrier for USPS. In 2018, she and her husband separated and in 2021 she met her now husband, James. Dawn ended her job with USPS in 2022 to move to Shreveport to be with him. In April of 2023 Dawn and James were married and in November she started her new career working with the Norwela Council.

Dawn is a big Georgia Bulldog fan but also enjoys going to LSU games with her husband and cheering them on as long as they aren’t playing against her Dawgs. Together they share four children, four dogs and two cats. They enjoy spending time with family and their animals, movies, shopping, traveling, history, plants, beaches, and have started classes in taekwondo. Dawn has been involved with Scouting for nearly 24 years now in a wide variety of roles through three states and four councils. She has been a member, a parent, a leader, and a staff member. Scouting has given so much to her, her family, and she truly loves supporting the volunteers as they deliver the Scouting program to area youth.

Next week we will meet Neshotah District Executive Michael Wells!

About Us

The Norwela Council of the Boy Scouts of America has been working to prepare today’s youths to become tomorrow’s leaders by instilling values that have grown too scarce in today’s society.

The Norwela Council of the BSA was established in 1923. It serves a nine-parish region: Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, DeSoto, Natchitoches, Red River, Sabine, and Webster.

In 2019:

  • Norwela Council served over 2,700 boys and girls in 123 Cub Scout Packs (age 5-10), Scouts BSA Troops (age 11-17), Venture Crews (age 14-20), and Exploring Posts (age 14-20).
  • Norwela Council had over 800 adult volunteers
  • Over 200 Boy Scouts attended Summer Camp at Kinsey Scout Reservation during the Summer
  • Over 2,000 Cub Scouts and their families attended Cub Family Weekend Camps
  • Over 300 Scouts BSA members and Scouters attended Winter Camp at Kinsey Scout Reservation in November
  • During the fall, over 1,200 new boys and girls and their families were recruited into the Scouting program
  • 37 youth attained the rank of Eagle Scout (the highest rank in Scouting)
  • Norwela Council provided registration assistance and camperships to over 600 youth
  • Norwela Council purchased food and program supplies for underprivileged youth

The Norwela Council is divided into 4 geographic districts. Each district is served by at least one professional staff member — district executive and/or district director. The district executive or director leads teams of hundreds of adult volunteer leaders in providing a Scouting program to the youth members in the community. The fax number for all districts is (318) 861-3354.

The Neshotah District serves all of Caddo Parish.

The Scoutreach District serves under-privileged youth during school hours who are unable to attend a “traditional” evening meeting.

The Netami District serves DeSoto, Red River, Natchitoches and Sabine Parishes.

The Yatasi District serves Bossier, Webster, Claiborne and Bienville Parishes.

Become a Scout Today!

Scouts BSA has a lot to offer, but don’t let the number of merit badges scare you away. With exposure to a uniquely hands-on learning experience and the opportunity to earn merit badges reflecting each Scout’s budding interests, youth unlock a world of discovery around them and forge a path for the future.
